MSP as a booster for Blue Economy – Ensuring a coherent planning across the Western Mediterranean region | 11 May 2021 | Online
11 May 2021 - 11 May 2021
The increasing demand for maritime space for various uses, as well as the multiple pressures on marine and coastal resources, requires an integrated approach to ocean management in the Western Mediterranean. The “WestMED” – “MSPglobal” joint webinar seeks to improve cross-border and transboundary cooperation for the development of Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) and Sustainable Blue Economy.
This event will assist WestMed southern shore countries in exchanging best cases, tools and actions at national and regional level to contribute to a coherent ecosystem-based MSP process and shape the role of MSP as a booster for Blue Economy.
Read the elated and relevant reports recently published by IOC-UNESCO:
- Technical Report on Current Conditions and Compatibility of Maritime Uses in the Western Mediterranean;
- Technical Report on Future Conditions and Scenarios for MSP and Sustainable Blue Economy Opportunities in the Western Mediterranean.
The day before, on 10 May (10:00 am – 2:40 pm/GMT+2), an EU MSP Platform – MSP-MED joint webinar will deal with the coexistence and synergetic relationship between economic, social, environmental, and cultural components of “spatial efficiency” at sea.
Through case studies, the webinar will present different points of view in building integrated and cohesive planning approaches and new management tools in MSP, including cooperation among Mediterranean EU countries and with Southern Mediterranean countries.
