Sustainable Small Scale Fisheries | 17 March 2021 – Online

17 mars 2021 - 17 mars 2021

On March 17, 2021 at 11:00AM (CET), the Interreg MED-funded Mediterranean Biodiversity Protection Community (MBPC) project, led by the European Topic Centre of the University of Malaga (ETC-UMA), and its Working Group 2 on Sustainable Use of Natural Resources coordinated by the CPMR Intermediterranean Commission, will organise a webinar on sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries (SSF) in the Mediterranean.

The aim of this online event is to report the best practices on SSF governance from two renown Mediterranean-based projects:

  •  » Transforming Mediterranean Small-Scale Fisheries « , led by WWF Mediterranean Marine Initiatives and aiming to establish a « co-management for SSF » system in 24 pilot sites from 10 Med countries.
  •  » FishMPABlue2 « , led by Federparchi-Europarc Italy and that tested 12 measures of SSF governance and management in 11 pilot Marine Protected Areas from 6 Med countries.

Then, the opportunity will be given to the participants to express their opinions about the showcased best practices and to share their own experience in order to improve SSF governance and participatory approaches.

If you are an artisanal fisherman or if you work with/for artisanal fishermen, if you have to manage SSF within your territory or to plan SSF efforts, if you deal with SSF policy making, marine protected areas management and planning, or if you are a researcher/scientist involved into biodiversity protection and management, join us and learn from SSF governance-related approaches and tools that have been tested during the last years, and add your experience to the discussion.
