To harness the endless opportunities for economic and social growth offered by the Mediterranean Sea, a number of challenges must be urgently addressed, including the current global crisis which, if properly handled, can turn into a unique opportunity. Innovation, sustainability, blue growth and transnational cooperation have to become the keywords steering the development of the MED Region over the next decade.

This webinar will focus on “blue” projects and initiatives that can contribute to the sustainable development of the MED area. Raffaele Mancini (Blue Economy Expert) will present opportunities and challenges linked to the sustainable development of marine and maritime sectors in the Mediterranean region on the basis of the experience gained and the lessons learnt in the framework of 4helix+ project. Anna Escoda (ASCAME) will look at the Mediterranean blue economy transition paying special attention to the role of blue SMEs. Finally, Leonardo Manzari (WestMED – Italy National Hub) will present the WestMED initiative with some supporting tools for blue projects, and will give some examples of projects that have been assisted by the initiative.
