The Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) has teamed up with Tech.mt to deliver an informative event on the importance of Research and Innovation (R&I) and the MCST funding programmes available, with a special focus on Malta’s digital sector.

MCST is the governmental body responsible for R&I, space, science and technology. It has long-standing experience as a managing authority in the provision of national funding opportunities for research. Its remit is complemented by other entities in Malta, which at times have a more specific sectorial focus. Tech.mt is one such entity, which aims at the promotion and drive towards research within the technology sector with a focus on digital innovation. Its collaboration with MCST provides the in-depth knowledge of the technical sector surrounding ICT and digital transformation areas, which are crucial to driving a knowledge-based economy. Tech.mt’s industry knowledge and its strong relations with local stakeholders, coupled by MCST’s experience in incentivising research, provides for a collaboration and an event that is to be both informative and insightful.

Whilst MCST’s funding programmes are a mixture of bottom-up and thematic-driven initiatives covering various sectors, the incentivising of ICT and digital transformation research forms a common thread through most of its programmes. Stakeholders may participate by realising innovative solutions through the FUSION national R&I programme, composed of the Research Excellence Programme, the Commercialisation Voucher Programme, the Technology Development Programme, as well as yearly special programmes.  Moreover, digital solutions may well be an enabler to research through other programmes such as the Space Research Fund, as well as internationalisation bilateral and multi-lateral initiatives operated through MCST’s Internationalisation Unit. MCST is the national contact organisation for the EU Framework programme Horizon Europe, with a team of national contact points in place to assist the local research community in tapping into EU Funds.
