National Hub Italy highlights importance of Sicomar plus project during roundtable at their final event

The WestMED National hub for Italy participated on January 12th 2022, in the final event of the SICOMAR PLUS project.

The Sicomar Plus project has been supported by the Italy France Maritime programme 2014-2020 to promote marine and maritime safety, the improvement of the quality of weather and oceanographic forecasts by implementing controlled sea surface through the use of innovative monitoring instruments (e.g. radar, satellites, in situ intruments), training  and demonstration activities, further to the designing of new emergency instruments. Each activity has been developed in a transnational view, of great importance for the achievements of the project results.

The National Hub for Italy took part in the round table: Navigation risks management and foresights, enphasizing the role of networking and communication activities in this particular sector. The WestMed Initiative was presented to over 50 national and international participants and stakeholders of the sectors involved.

Furthermore, the National Hub for Italy  highlighted that the SICOMAR PLUS project has been one of the Winners of the WestMED Project Awards, launched for the first time in 2021, and awarded during the WestMED Stakeholders Conference on November 9 2021,  with the objective to identify, showcase and honour exceptional projects in different areas which provide innovative and replicable solutions embodying the WestMED initiative’s vision for the western Mediterranean.
