Portugal National Hub plans meetings with regional stakeholders

Fórum Oceano, the Portuguese National Hub, is organising, in collaboration with the Regional Coordination and Development Commissions of Lisbon, Alentejo and Algarve, a series of meetings to bring together the regional stakeholders.

These sessions will happen during February and aim to raise awareness on the WestMED’ s progress and implementation, to discuss ongoing proposals and new project ideas, to hear the stakeholders’ expectations, to invite other stakeholders to be part of the Initiative and to identify partnership opportunities.

The meetings will of relevance to set the basis of the National Event, that will take place on the 27th of February, in Lisbon (IPMA Headquarters). The event, promoted in collaboration with DGPM, National Authority, aims to endeavour the discussion and the knowledge exchange to improve the Portuguese participation on the WestMED Initiative.

Both Roadshows and National Event are important initiatives to organise the participation of Portuguese representatives in the WestMED Hackathons and the “2020 UfM Regional Stakeholder Conference”.

WestMED Initiative represented at Business2Sea event

The 9th edition of Business2Sea, organised by Fórum Oceano, the WestMED Portuguese National Hub, in collaboration with CETMAR Foundation, took place between the 11th and 13th of November 2019, at Alfandega Porto Congress Centre, in Oporto.

This year, the event was dedicated to the main theme “Healthy Oceans and the Sustainable Use of Marine Resources”, under the framework of the Sustainable Development Goal 14: “Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development”.

The WestMED Initiative was represented at the event with an exhibition booth, receiving the visit of the Portuguese Minister of Sea, Ricardo Serrão Santos, on the 12th of November. The event gathered around 700 participants and it was a great opportunity to get in contact with the Atlantic National Hub to schedule a joint session focused on the presentation of both initiatives. This session should happen in January 2020.

During the Business2Sea event, the Portuguese National Hub also took the chance to meet the new president of Lisbon Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR LVT), Teresa Almeida, in order to organise a meeting in Lisbon, gathering the regional stakeholders.

WestMED at Business2Sea event

Fórum Oceano, the WestMED Portuguese National Hub, organises since 2011 the Business2Sea event aiming to promote the development of projects and business in the different sectors of the Sea Economy. The event gathers stakeholders from various fields, namely representatives of companies and business associations, universities, research centres, public administration and others, and it comprises four main components, as follows:

  • Conferences, seminars and thematic workshops to discuss different maritime issues;
  • International Business Meetings (B2B meetings);
  • Pitching Sessions, usually called “Curtas do Mar”;
  • An exhibition area to showcase technologies, products or services.

Besides, the event counts also on moments for networking, tasting of seafood and other interactive experiences.

The 9th edition of Business2Sea will take place between the 11th and 13th of November 2019, at Alfandega Porto Congress Centre, in Oporto.

This year, the event is being organised by Fórum Oceano in collaboration with CETMAR Foundation (www.cetmar.org), from Galicia, Spain, and it is dedicated to the main theme “Healthy Oceans and the Sustainable Use of Marine Resources”, under the framework of the Sustainable Development Goal 14: “Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development”.

The event is composed of a programme of conferences, seminars and workshops, an exhibition of technology and maritime services and products, a matchmaking programme, and a pitching sessions’ programme, called “Curtas do Mar”. Business2Sea will also host the 6th Atlantic Stakeholder Platform Conference and the Interreg Atlantic Area Annual Event.

Initiative WestMED at ‘Feira do Mar’ event

Fórum Oceano, the Portuguese National Hub, presented the Initiative WestMED during the event ‘Feira do Mar’, that took place in Sines, Alentejo, Portugal, from the 12 to the 14 July 2019.

The presentation occurred in the framework of a Conference focused on Maritime Commerce: From Sines (Portugal) to the World, with the presence of Portuguese stakeholders, namely representatives of Associations, Port Authorities, the National Maritime Authority, Public Administration, Companies, Universities and R&D Centres.

Fórum Oceano aimed at explaining the Initiative’ s goals and implementation, giving some information about the activities held and the next steps. This presentation had the support of Sines Tecnopolo, regional stakeholder that is involved in WestMED.

Besides the presentation, the Initiative WestMED was also represented at the exhibition area, at the Fórum Oceano’ s booth.

Commissioner Karmenu Vella visits WestMED Initiative’ s booth at the European Maritime Day

The WestMED Initiative was represented at the European Maritime Day 2019, on 16 and 17 May 2019, in Lisbon. Fórum Oceano, which is the WestMED Portuguese National Hub, assured the presence of the Initiative at the exhibition area. After the opening ceremony session, held on 16 May, the Commissioner Karmenu Vella visited the WestMED’ s booth, exchanging some encouraging words with Frederico Ferreira, Fórum Oceano.

The European Maritime Day (EMD) it a two-day annual event that DG MARE organises since 2008. In 2019, the EMD took place at the Lisbon Congress Centre, on 16 and 17 May 2019. It was co-organised by the European Commission (DG MARE), the Ministry of the Sea (Directorate General for Maritime Policy) and the Lisbon City Council, in collaboration with Fórum Oceano, the Portuguese Maritime Cluster, which was the entity responsible for organising the exhibition area.

According to DGMARE: “with 1500 registered participants, EMD 2019 has broken all previous records, including for the biggest ever exhibition, with 105 exhibitors. (note: Linke removed/ inactive page)” The focus of the 2019 edition was blue entrepreneurship, innovation and investment to transform traditional maritime sectors and boost emerging technologies and value chains. The event comprised workshops, breakout sessions, B2B meetings, pitches and an exhibition area (EMD EXPO).

European Maritime Day 2019: Fórum Oceano promove workshop sobre o projeto SAFER

No âmbito do projeto SAFER – Smart Atlantic Seafood Clusters, cofinanciado pelo programa Interreg Espaço Atlântico, a Fórum Oceano irá promover o Workshop “Seafood as key sector for Blue Growth in the EU Regions”, no dia 17 de maio, pelas 09h00. A sessão enquadra-se na programação do European Maritime Day, que terá lugar no Centro de Congressos de Lisboa, nos dias 16 e 17 de maio.

O workshop tem como objetivo discutir como é que a aplicação de novas tecnologias, nomeadamente a adoção do modelo de Indústria 4.0, e a cooperação transnacional podem responder aos desafios enfrentados pela fileira do pescado. A participação na sessão é livre, mediante inscrição através do endereço: https://european-maritime-day.b2match.io/page-3871.

Focado nas oportunidades e desafios enfrentados pela fileira do pescado (aquacultura, pescas, processamento, transformação e conservação de pescado), reconhecido como setor chave para o crescimento azul nas regiões do Atlântico, o SAFER visa potenciar o nível de inovação, promovendo a adoção de novas tecnologias e o aumento da cooperação transnacional. O objetivo passa por identificar oportunidades para integração de novos processos, incrementando a eficiência e melhorando a comunicação entre os atores ao longo de toda a cadeia de valor.

Nesse sentido, o consórcio do projeto está a desenvolver uma rede transnacional de inovação, envolvendo clusters marítimos Europeus. Para testar esta rede, os parceiros do SAFER têm prevista a realização de cinco ações piloto, cujos resultados e recomendações serão posteriormente partilhados com 21 regiões do espaço Atlântico.

O SAFER reúne 9 parceiros de 5 Estados-Membro (Portugal, Espanha, França, Irlanda e Reino Unido), tendo uma duração de 36 meses e um orçamento de 1,8 milhões de euros (75% financiado pelo FEDER). Mais informação sobre o projeto em http://saferatlantic.eu/

Fórum Oceano promove sessão sobre iniciativa WestMED na região do Algarve

Enquanto ponto focal nacional do mecanismo de assistência técnica à Iniciativa WestMED, a Fórum Oceano promoveu uma sessão de trabalho no Algarve, reunindo os stakeholders da região.

O encontro teve lugar no dia 2 de maio, na CCDR Algarve, tendo como objetivo divulgar a Iniciativa, nomeadamente, âmbito, objetivos, plano de ação e temas prioritários, e conhecer os interesses dos atores regionais na matéria. A sessão visou ainda dar a conhecer a sessão de trabalho de Palermo, que decorrerá no dia 14 de maio, intitulada Hackathons WestMED: “Blue economy contribution to the Summit of the Two Shores”.

Participaram na reunião representantes da Universidade do Algarve, IPMA, Municípios de Olhão, Portimão, Faro, Lagos e Loulé, Docapesca, CCMAR, Necton SA, DRAP Algarve, Região de Turismo do Algarve e CCDR Algarve.

Fórum Oceano apresenta iniciativa WestMED no Alentejo

Realizou-se no dia 8 de abril, nas instalações da CCDR Alentejo, uma sessão de apresentação do ponto focal nacional para a iniciativa WestMED, abordando temas e projetos relevantes para a Região.

A ação contou com a participação de representantes da Universidade de Évora, Instituto Politécnico de Beja, MARE, Município de Grândola, ADRAL, CERTIS, EDIA, APS e Sines Tecnopolo, constituindo um momento importante para difundir informação sobre a iniciativa e conhecer os interesses dos stakeholders do Alentejo na matéria.

O encontro teve ainda como objetivo dar a conhecer a sessão de trabalho de Palermo, que decorrerá no dia 14 de maio, intitulada Hackathons WestMED: “Blue economy contribution to the Summit of the Two Shores”. O evento visa reunir stakeholders (empresas, centros de investigação, instituições de ensino, autoridades nacionais e regionais) dos países abrangidos pela iniciativa WestMED, promovendo a troca de conhecimento e ideias para o desenvolvimento de projetos estruturantes.

Está prevista a realização de sessões similares nas regiões de Lisboa e Algarve, durante os meses de abril e maio.

Recorde-se que a Fórum Oceano assegura o ponto focal nacional do Mecanismo de Assistência Técnica à Iniciativa para o Desenvolvimento Sustentável da Economia Azul no Mediterrâneo Ocidental (WestMED).

Fórum Oceano assegura ponto focal nacional do Mecanismo de Assistência WestMED

No âmbito do Mecanismo de Assistência Técnica ao Programa de Cooperação Inter-regional do Mediterrâneo Ocidental (WestMED), a Fórum Oceano assegura o ponto focal (National Hub) do Programa para Portugal, em resultado de um processo concursal lançado pela Comissão Europeia, ganho pelo consórcio liderado pela empresa ECORYS, que a Fórum Oceano integrou.

Nesse sentido, compete à Fórum Oceano assegurar as ligações do Programa com as Autoridades Nacionais, identificar oportunidades de projetos e de financiamentos, monitorizar a aplicação do Programa, organizar e participar em eventos de apresentação e disseminação do mesmo.
